Apple unveiled its most recent iOS 9 for iPhones and iPads on Monday at its annual Worldwide Development Conference. The most recent version of iOS is application-focused and includes some fresh software hacks for Apple gadgets. Apple announced that it will be a free upgrade and that no iOS 8-running devices will be excluded from this release. But, a public beta will also be available in July.
Let’s examine the Cupertino juggernaut’s most recent operating system.
Siri
Apple’s personal assistant now has a new, livelier, and more colourful user interface. Additionally, Apple stated that the new Siri in the future iOS 9 software upgrade will be tightly integrated with Apple’s own applications and be capable of much more. For instance, if you ask Siri to display the photos from your vacation to the United States last May, she will do it. The personal assistant can now tell when you’re in your car, so you may ask Siri to remind you to grab your passbook.
Apple also said that Siri will be able to recognise your patterns and adapt its behaviour to fit your way of living. Now that it is “Proactive,” it can also instantly start playing music when you connect in your headphones, receive an invitation from Mail, and add it to your calendar without requiring you to open another app.
News
Like Samsung’s Flipboard-inspired news streaming app, HTC Blinkfeed, and iOS 9’s Apple also featured a news-based app. According to Apple, it is named News and focuses on “custom layout, rich typography.”
The programme draws content from publications like Wired, The Atlantic, etc. and has a design that resembles a cross between Newstand and Flipboard. Every time a user checks it, it is updated. Large photographs, graphics, infographics, embedded videos, and interactive components are common in news stories and articles. Based on the subjects you are most interested in, it compiles all the articles you want to read from the best news sources.
Notes
A formatting toolbar will be included with the Notes programme. More features will now be available straight from the programme itself, including the ability to create checklists, upload photographs to your notes, draw and sketch inside of Notes, connect to notes from the share sheet, and more. Also, iCloud.com and all of your devices will be updated with the changes you make to your notes. This way, you’ll always have the most recent notes at hand.
Maps
Transit directions will be available in iOS 9’s Maps, according to Apple, however they are currently only available in a few places (it will kick off in the US and China). Users can now utilise Maps as a guide when using public transit. According to Apple, when you design a route, every step of your journey is outlined from point A to point B. The Nearby feature of the Map app will also make it simpler to see what is nearby and choose where to shop, eat, and more. Users will also be able to tap on a station to see all the lines that pass through it while the information for trains is being fetched (there is even a “multi-modal routing” option that allows you to switch from trains to buses, etc.).
Spotlight
When you pull down to reach the Spotlight panel in iOS 9, Siri will be more closely connected with Spotlight, allowing it to propose items, like as contacts, depending on your email and calendar.
Spotlight Search and Siri may essentially collaborate to provide app recommendations, contacts, and much more. Also, you’ll see videos in your Spotlight search results, something iOS 8 does not offer.
Last but not least, Apple announced the availability of a search API: “When a user performs a search, we can uncover material behind the apps they have on their device, and when they tap they’re deep-linked into the app,” the company stated.
Healthkit
Apple’s senior vice president of marketing, Craig Federighi, announced that Apple HealthKit will soon begin tracking “reproductive health, which will undoubtedly be advantageous for users. The iPhone’s Health app will be able to monitor a woman’s cycle and ovulation after the iOS 9 upgrade. A number of additional new HealthKit indicators, including UV exposure and the frequency of sitting down, were also released by Apple.
Passbook and Apple Pay
In iOS 9, Apple Pay will now be known as Apple Wallet. The UK will get it the next month, and within the following month, the number of stores that accept Apple Wallet will top 1 million. Also, according to Apple, you may now add shop credit cards and reward cards (in addition to bank debit and credit cards).
Pinterest, which is introducing Buyable Pins so that you can get things directly from Pinterest, will be one of the new partners on the list. Buyable Pins will be available later this month on iOS only.
Safety and Privacy
As iOS 9 becomes more sophisticated and individualised, security and privacy also improve. According to Apple, your ID will now require two-factor authentication. Your Apple gadget will become more secure as a result, allowing you to use it without worrying about your sensitive data. By using two-factor authentication, you will be asked for a verification code when logging in from a different browser or device. Your phone or other Apple devices will automatically show this code. You may sign in instantly by entering the code, keeping out any illegal users.
Your Touch ID-enabled iPhone and iPad’s passcodes will now contain six numbers instead of four. Your passcode will therefore be far more difficult to decipher given that there are one million possible combinations rather than just 10,000.
Increased battery life
According to Apple, important applications and technologies have been improved to reduce power consumption throughout the entire operating system, giving you more battery life for daily activities. Also, Apple has incorporated a new Low Power option that allows you to significantly increase battery life.
Migration to Android
Move, an app that allows you to seamlessly switch from your Android handset to your new iOS device, will be included with iOS 9. Your contacts, message history, camera images and videos, browser bookmarks, mail accounts, calendars, wallpaper, and DRM-free music and books are all safely transferred. You can also rebuild your app library with its assistance. Your usage of any free apps, such as Facebook and Twitter, is recommended for download from the App Store. And your iTunes Wish List now includes your purchased apps.
